Sydney Laneways 2009, Australia—No. 28

Druitt Lane
This was interesting because I walked into this laneway thinking, modern, uninspiring, but walked out with one of my favourite shots ever.

I'm in love with this image and I'm not quite sure why.

And I am rather partial to this one too. They both strike me as potential settings for modern versions of fairy tales, a lady in the tower below, an austere castle above.

So yesterday, Thursday 19 November, I had the day off work, simply splendid spiffing. I booked it off to see Peter and Wolf at the Sydney Opera House. It was the best feeling ever, arising with a creative day ahead of me starting with playing my oboe, a few baroque pieces I am working on at the mo, and then to the city to immerse myself in laneways. I even did a merry jig in the middle of Customs House (poor Shirley) because I felt so full of joy.

Peter and the Wolf was brilliant (also lieutenant kije, the ugly duckling and piano concerto no 5). It took me back to being a child and I even shed a tear for the poor duck who got gobbled.

Laneway 27 Sands Street confirmed my interest in doors and I found a lovely battered leaf lying next to the pavement, it reminded me of how I've felt at times.

I find that I am divided in my purpose, to record on a mundane level the laneway in a very literal sense and then to record what I truly find beautiful, guess it doesn't matter. I do both.

For some reason the third image reminded me of an owl, the eyes.

Druitt Place, wow I finally reached the second column.

Kristin is right. When we visited the Brett Whiteley gallery, I felt peaceful looking at his tiny painting of Charlotte Lane. It's so impressionist. Anyway, she said she knows what I will do with all my laneways—paint. I can't wait to get to Russia and draw and be truly creative.

Hurrah, I'm up to no. 26, not long til 48 and my laneway party.

Lees Court
I had to resist photographing this one when I visited number 9.

Council Place

Sometimes I get a little scared lurking around in deserted alleys, but I love exploring the city again and seeing it from a different perspective.

Market Row
In the last picture, the graffiti in orange reads 'I hate orange'. I like that. It reminds me of the time Tania gave me an orange crayon for my birthday. I must have been maybe 14 or 15. The bars in the window remind me of Mona Hatoum's photo of carrots. The photo features a bunch of carrots and within the bunch are two carrots that have grown entwined, very sweet. Another photo of hers I like features a little ornamental bird on a window sill and beyond it, outside on the other side of the glass, is a real bird a seagull in the same position standing next to the ornament.

For Tania and your whacky sense of humour and for sharing dingbots with me
